I’ve written to you once before about Israel’s advancements in water technology, and now these technological blessings are improving lives around the world.
Here are just a few ways Jewish people are changing the global water and agricultural landscape for good.
Within the last decade, the tiny nation of Israel, like most nations in the Middle East, had to worry about shortages of clean water due to the worst drought in more than 900 years. But even after continued drought conditions—Israel now produces more water than it consumes. Thanks to technological advancements in desalinization, Israel is revolutionizing agriculture in the Middle East region.
Today, Israel’s water production far surpasses the needs of its eight million citizens. Desalinization (or removal of salt and other dissolved solids from sea water) works by pushing saltwater into membranes containing microscopic pores. The water gets through, while the larger salt molecules are left behind.
Microorganisms in seawater can quickly colonize the membranes and block the pores, and controlling them requires periodic costly and chemical-intensive cleaning. But newer plants use a chemical-free system of lava stone to capture the microorganisms before they reach the membranes. It’s one of many water miracles that allows Israel to obtain 55% of its domestic water from desalination. Now this nation is able to export water to its neighbors and share its technology with the world.
“The beauty is that Israel is willing to share all its development achievements with other nations,” said Yakov Poleg, head of The Center for International Agricultural Development Cooperation. Perhaps Israel’s greatest agricultural success is its partnership with India, which has led to resource conservation and increased crop yields. It happened in a relatively short window since diplomatic relations opened in 1992 between the two countries. Out of Israel the expertise has flowed to allow rapid development throughout India echoing Isaiah’s prophetic words:
The wilderness and dry land will be glad. The desert will rejoice and blossom like a lily. (Isaiah 35:1 TLV)
There are even emerging technologies in Israel that literally pull water from thin air.
An Israeli company called Water-Gen has built machines specifically designed to harvest water vapor from air. Using plastic “leaves” to funnel air in various directions, these water generators appear to create pure drinking water out of nothing.
“We think it’s possible to bring drinking water to all countries,” Maxim Pasik, Water-Gen’s chairman said. “What’s important for us is to bring water to the people.” This is a statement close to my heart as Jewish Voice continues its mission to share Living Water with all peoples of the world. With your help, we will continue doing just that.
Your gift of support for Jewish Voice saves lives and blesses some of the poorest and most oppressed Jewish people on earth. We are so grateful for your heart to partner with us in this work. Please consider sharing an urgently needed gift today by clicking on the “Donate Now” button below.
To thank you for your gift of $30 or more today, we’d like to send you the beautiful silver plated Shema necklace. This unique design includes the Hebrew Shema in an artfully crafted pendant and is sure to open opportunities for sharing your faith in Yeshua the Messiah.
This beautifully designed silver plated pendant displays the Hebrew text of the Shema from Deuteronomy 6:4, “Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.” Considered one of the most important declarations of faith, the Shema is also the prayer inside the mezuzah placed on doorposts. In Deuteronomy, the Shema is followed immediately by what Jesus called the Greatest Commandment in the whole Bible, instructing us to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, and might.
We so appreciate you and that you have chosen to partner with Jewish Voice to minister healing and hope to Jewish people and their neighbors throughout the world. Thank you!
To the Jew first and also to the Nations,
